Turn that Frown Upside Down! Your DAO Most Asked Questions–Answered!

Curious about DAO botox and wondering if it’s the right treatment for you? Let’s break down what DAO botox is and how it might help you achieve the look you want.

What are DAOs?

DAO stands for Depressor Anguli Oris, and it is a muscle that extends from the corner of the mouth to the lower jaw. Over time, this muscle weakens, and can lead to downturned corners of the mouth.

How can botox help?

When Botox is injected into a muscle, it can help by blocking the neurotransmitters in the muscle, therefore inhibiting the muscle movement. In the DAO muscle specifically, usually 2-4 units are injected per side to help lift the corners of the lip.

What to expect during treatment?

Botox is a relatively painless treatment, and most clients report feeling just a small pinch when the neuromodulator is injected into the muscle. Redness and swelling are considered normal side effects that typically resolve within a few hours.

How long do results last?

The effects of Botox slowly take effect each day after your appointment, with peak results seen at 2 weeks after treatment. These results typically last about 3 to 4 months. From there, it will be time to book your next appointment!

Can anyone get botox in their DAOs?

Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for Botox in their DAO muscle. However, our experienced aesthetic providers are here to discuss your candidacy and ultimately create a personalized treatment plan specific to your goals!
